Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) –  Many diesel cars on the roads these days will have been fitted with a DPF in the exhaust to help with emission standards. The collection of soot is burnt off at a high temperature to leave only a tiny ash residue and as with any filter they have to be emptied regularly to maintain performance by a process called Regeneration. Regeneration takes place automatically on Motorways or fast A road runs when the exhaust temp is high or when the soot loading in the filter reaches a set limit and the vehicle will initiate Regeneration .
The problem is that if you only use your car for short journeys regeneration may become incomplete.
So if your thinking of changing your car to one that has a DPF and you will only be using it for town based short stop/start journeys it might be wise to do your homework on DPF’S.

We are seeing an increase in cars coming in to us with DPF problems and there are several options available that we can perform to resolve the issue for you.
