STOP!

Are your brakes effective?

It is concerning to learn that one-in-three accidents happen due to faulty brakes and a vehicle not being able to stop in time.

Look out for the tell-tale signs of a problem;

  • a brake warning light has come up on your dashboard
  • a screeching noise coming from your brakes or a grinding sound
  • vibration when braking
  • if your vehicle veers to the left or right when steering
  • an increase in stopping distance
  • Your brake pedal may feel softer when applying the brake

We at Motech Autocentres strongly recommend that you have your brakes inspected if you have any concerns concerning their effectiveness.

A brake test can tell you if there is a fault with your brakes or simply reassure you that they are working effectively. Our team of experts can help you with this.

The brake system of your vehicle is ultimately the most crucial safety system that it has.

A vehicles brake system is made up of three components; mechanical, electronic and hydraulically activated parts.

These parts work together using both friction and heat to bring a vehicle to a stop.

If any of these components fails, the brakes will not perform effectively, especially in an emergency stop situation.

Here at Motech Autocentres in Newbury we can perform a full brake inspection to include:

  • Brake pads/shoes
  • Brake discs/drums
  • Pipes/Hoses
  • Master cylinder
  • Callipers
  • Hand Brake

You will generally find that the brake pad is the component that will need replacing the most.

They are designed to wear out faster than the discs, but luckily they are cheaper to replace. There is a pad on each side of the disc designed to clamp together using the hydraulic force of the calliper.

Your brake pads must be in perfect condition at all times as they are the main component that makes contact with and applies pressure to vehicle’s brake rotors.

Our expert technicians at Motech Autocentres will inspect and test your brakes for effectiveness, condition, wear and seizing.

If you have any concerns about the condition of your brakes, give us a call or come directly to us.
